Green Key is a certification programme for hotels, hostels, small accommodations, campsites, holiday parks, conference centres, restaurants, and attractions worldwide
In order for your establishment to apply for Green Key, please check the following five points:
1. Is your establishment in a country with a national operator?
If your establishment is located in a country with a Green Key national operator, the local organisation will be in charge of receiving your application. Please contact the national organisation directly to proceed.
If your establishment is located in a country without a national operator, Green Key International will be receiving your application.
NB. The Green Programme operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) does not operate in USA or Canada.
2. Information about Green Key criteria and application process
If you are a hotel or other eligible establishment interested in joining the Green Key programme, we first encourage you to make yourself familiar with the Green Key criteria (criteria 2022-2026 or criteria 2026-2031) and general certification process (certification process 2022-2026 or certification process 2026-2031).
3. Why Green Key?
If you are assessing whether Green Key is useful for your establishment, here is some information about the potential advantages of joining the Green Key programme:
Responding to the consumer expectations that tourism establishments actively work with sustainability
Helping tourism establishments to work with sustainability in a structured way
Contributing to the reduction of use of resources (water, energy, waste) at the tourism establishments and therefore potential reduction of costs
Having the work with sustainability at the tourism establishments recognised by a programme operated by an independent non-profit organisation
4. Test whether your establishment is eligible for Green Key
By using the self-assessment form you can roughly assess how ready your hotel is to apply for the Green Key certificate (assessment either against the 2022-2026 criteria or the 2026-2031 criteria).
If your establishment is located in a country with a Green Key national operator, slightly different Green Key criteria may apply. Please contact your national operator for further details.
