The Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre Kigali becomes the third East Africa's Green Key certified hotel

The Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali, has obtained the Green Key certification, becoming the third facility in East Africa, and first in Rwanda, to be recognised for its commitment to environmental responsibility by this international programme. This achievement highlights the hotel's dedication to implementing a variety of sustainability strategies and providing skilled solutions to environmental challenges.

The Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, perfectly situated in the vibrant heart of Kigali, offers guests an exceptional experience with its variety of dining options, state-of-the-art wellness centres, and close proximity—just 5 kilometers—to the airport.

Beyond its impressive amenities, the hotel stands out for its deep commitment to sustainability, integrating eco-friendly practices into every facet of its operations. This dedication is largely driven by the hotel's devoted staff, who are passionate about contributing to a healthier, more sustainable environment. Adding to its allure, the hotel boasts expansive conference facilities, luxurious accommodations, and breathtaking views of Kigali, making it a premier destination for both leisure and business travelers seeking a blend of comfort, convenience, and sustainability.

The hotel has taken significant strides in embedding sustainability into its core operations, including measures such as:

  • The Green Housekeeping Program at the hotel integrates eco-friendly cleaning agents and emphasizes conservation, like using microfiber cloths and water-saving laundry techniques, to minimize its environmental footprint and support sustainable hospitality practices.

  • Through its Water Treatment and Recycling efforts, the hotel not only conserves water but also showcases its commitment to sustainability by using treated greywater for irrigation, demonstrating a significant reduction in freshwater demand.

  • The hotel's Anti-Single-Use Plastics Campaign has replaced items like plastic straws and bottles with eco-friendly alternatives, setting an example in waste management and educating guests on the importance of reducing plastic use.

  • By adopting a Sustainable Food and Beverage Policy, the hotel ensures the use of eco-certified products and focuses on reducing food waste, promoting local culture and contributing to a more sustainable global food system.

According to the coordinator in charge of Responsible Business, Alice Mushyitsi:

The Green Key Certificate represents more than just a certificate; it is a testament to our unwavering commitment to consistently implementing eco-friendly practices and providing sustainable solutions to environmental challenges in our community.
