When in Rome: Crowne Plaza Rome St. Peter's Good Practices

Crowne Plaza Rome St. Peter's has built sustainability into the fabric of its daily operations. Guided by a comprehensive sustainability policy, the hotel addresses environmental impact and community wellbeing across every department, from the kitchen to the front desk.

The hotel invests in efficient technologies to reduce energy consumption and encourages responsible behaviour among staff and guests alike. On the water side, low-flow devices are installed throughout the property, paired with ongoing efforts to build water-conscious habits among everyone who passes through.

Reducing, recycling, and reusing materials is standard practice across all areas of the hotel. The team works closely with local suppliers to cut down on packaging, a collaboration that also strengthens the property's ties to the surrounding region.

Sustainability shows up on the plate too. The hotel sources local and seasonal ingredients to lower the environmental footprint of its menus, while careful inventory management and staff awareness initiatives help keep food waste to a minimum. Guests are also invited to browse digital menus in the restaurant, cutting down on paper use one meal at a time.

The hotel maintains an active presence in its local community, taking part in social projects and volunteering initiatives and regularly supporting the KIM Association throughout the year. It also promotes cultural and environmental activities in the area, reinforcing its role as a genuine neighbour rather than just a place to stay.

The property actively pursues recognised environmental certifications and standards, and it monitors its own performance regularly to identify new opportunities for improvement. Staff receive ongoing training on sustainability, ensuring these values are practiced daily rather than filed away in a policy document. Guests, too, are kept informed: information on initiatives, local attractions, and responsible options is shared through digital channels, and outdoor activities are offered as another way to get guests engaged during their stay.

Global Action Days: "Contadina Spring"

As part of its ongoing participation in #GlobalActionDays26, Crowne Plaza Rome St. Peter's launched the "Contadina Spring" culinary activity, celebrating seasonal biodiversity, tradition, and local farming culture through a short, zero-kilometre supply chain.

The centrepiece of the project is a narrative dish built around what the season and the territory had to offer: a grain salad featuring Colosseo einkorn farro, Terracina asparagus, fresh fava beans from Agro Pontino and Ciociaria, and PDO Pecorino Romano "Gold Buccia Nera." Served uncooked, the dish minimises energy and water use while giving international guests a direct taste of the region and a reason to think about where their food comes from.

The hotel's deep knowledge of its territory and long-standing relationships with local suppliers made the project possible, allowing the team to source high-quality, zero-kilometre ingredients while keeping products at peak freshness.
